The Sinking Isles

The Philippines, our proud nation rich in  history and culture.Throughout the years she has been the envy of many, the pearl of the orient. An archipelago of 7,107 islands  with a diverse echo system of flora and fauna only unique to her and a land rich in minerals and precious metals. Her splendor so great and inviting, foreigners came to claim her as their own.Countless battles have been fought on her shores, those times of turmoil gave birth to her heroes and brave defenders who fought a 300 year struggle from Spanish alienation and also the alienation that came after them...

But those years have long passed, now her people are independent and free from foreign rule. But are we really free from foreign influence? or have we just broken free from foreign slavery only to become slaves of our own corruption?

Now our pride has led us into our demise, our leaders turn a blind eye to those in need, to fill their own pockets with money earned by the very people who they abuse. As our national hero Dr.Jose P. Rizal quoted "There can be no tyrants where there are no slaves." Who knew these words would come and haunt us like a ghost trying to remind us of our hypocrisy?

Now,we fall under a leader that has promised hope and better change for our country, where the poor will finally have a second chance and where the homeless can finally taste the comforts of a warm house and a sturdy roof to protect them from the weather.but those promises remain empty as the years come by, still the homeless dwell the streets and the poor struggle even harder. Our lands tainted by pollution and our resources depleted from mass consumption, our animals driven to the brink of extinction, but no one really cares because its all for the glory of our economy, A fool's ideology. No money can reclaim the lives of those destroyed for the sake of dirty politics. while the 27.6 million people suffer from empty words of hope, our leader vaingloriously bask in the honorable memory of his father and mother, who gave the people true hope.We are bleeding our country dry of her splendor. Now,she mourns for her past that was so great, Like an old woman trying to recall the better days.

We are living like rats on a sinking boat.when will we wake from this hypnosis? I just hope it wont be too late.
